How can I remove a control arm on a 1989 camry.?

I was told that I needed a ball joint and that I might as well buy the control arm w/ball joint. I hear a knock sound when I take off and when I begin to stop. I just replaced the cv axle drivers side. I am not sure if I overtightened the castle nut on the ball joint or if I undertightened it. I compared it with the other side and left around 3 threads showing. I appreciate the help Thanks.

It's a good idea to change the arm considering the age of the car. The bushings are probably worn out as well. If you want step by step direction and torque specs for the control arm, check out the link below.
