iam trying to rewind an old 24 volt transformer but i don't no the turns?
i have an old 3000 watt transformer iam trying to build to 24volt secondary, 240 volt premary but i don't no how many turns on the primary and the secondry side.
there are a lot of things that need to be calculated.
open circuit voltage is higher than loaded voltage.
and there is some loss,
so usually the ratio of the turns is going to be the same as the ratio of the voltages, in your case 240/24 or 10 to1
but if you have it at 10 to 1, your open circuit voltage will be 24V, and it may drop many volts when loaded.
what is the highest voltage out that you can take ?
I would set your turns ratio at that, then calculate the loss of the copper wire in your theoretical primary and secondary and see if it will drop lower than you can take.
the math is a little unknown because you will not have data on your transformer core, and there may be a little trial and error with the math and when you actually try it.
