Telescoping Wheelchair
Best telescope for beginner - in wheelchair?

I would like to examine the sky more closely, mostly planets, and want to buy the best telescope I can get for the money. What should I look for? What do you think is the best telescope for a person on a limited budget. Also, I use a wheelchair, so I can't see through many models.

I suggest that you join a local Astronomy Society or club first. That way you can go out in the field on star parties and actually look through a wide variety of scopes and choose which one is best for you. Many clubs have loaner scopes that you can check out and try first too. The club members will give you lots of advice and help picking the perfect fit for you then help you to learn about the scope that you buy.

Make sure you know the weight and dimentions of your choice so that you can easily lift and transport your scope. If you cant get it out in the field easily then you wont use it and you will lose interest. That would be sad.

Normally dobsonian mounted scopes are easiest but the eyepieces are usually near the top so if you are getting into a LARGE scope, you might not be able to use it. Stay with the smaller scopes of that type. Nearly all scopes that are on a tripod type mount can have their height adjusted to a chair level so you are not as limited as you might think. We have several people in our club who use wheelchairs and they are not hindered at all.

I am an Orion fan. oriontelescopes.com

DO NOT buy from Target, Costco, Walmart or other discount store. Those are junk scopes.

Thanks for looking at our Telescoping Wheelchair information.
