Is the AMX-10RC a main battle tank in its' own merit ? It has better mobility & firepower than most tanks.?
In Iraq, Chad, and Yugoslavia it proved itself to be able to dominated any tanks, and armored vehicles threw against it even though it was just a wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicle. In its' testing trail it proved that it can fire on the move with a 90% accuracy. Its' 105 mm can rip through 3 M1 at the distance of 2 miles.

to the best of my knowledge in France it officially qualifies as a reconnaissance tank, but by former warsaw pact it was considered a main battle tank, because of it's main armament.
while it has quite a decent main gun, and can fire kinetic energy shells it's armor is a little weak. for operation desert shield / desert storm amx10rc armor was upgraded with extra armor plates (which significantly raised the weight of the tank) but it's still not comparable to main battle tank armor.
Armored reconnaissance vehicle with one heck of a gun, but no main battle tank.
